Season 7 promises to be the last of Orange Is the New Black on Netflix, but fans from Day 1 still cannot get over the fact that Bennett hasn’t made an appearance since he first freaked out about Daya’s family in the early days of Season 3. Seriously, despite the fact that we’ve met a whole new cast of inmates and watched a ton of drama unfold onscreen thanks to them Carol and Barb, here’s looking at you , fans cannot get over Bennett’s disappearance. Fans are inconsolable after Bennett’s been kept from us for the better part of three seasons. As a refresher for fans who want to be reminded of what went down back in Season 3, Bennett and Daya fall in love with each other super early on and have what viewers might call the most stable romantic relationship to take place in Litchfield. Spoiler: This is a very low bar. Bennett is relentlessly infatuated with Daya, which he knows is messed up on tons of levels, not least the fact that he’s a CO and prisoners and guards shouldn’t be entering romantic relationships.
Fact-Checking Season 3 of Orange Is the New Black
Unplanned pregnancies are never easy. Bringing a child into the world can redefine everything you thought you knew about the world, and for some people, that idea is just too much. Litchfield prison guard John Bennett from Orange is the New Black seemed to be ready to bring a child into the world, but things just didn’t work out. After romantically courting, impregnating, and proposing to inmate Daya, Bennett seemed to have a sudden change of heart and left Litchfield Prison early in Season 3 and disappeared for the rest of the season.
Bennett was one of the only likable employees in the entire prison and seemed to be a good guy, so why exactly did Bennett leave Daya and the baby?
First came CO Bennett and Daya, then CO Coates Donuts and Pennsatucky, but outside of Litchfield, there’s a guard-inmate relationship that.
Have you ever had an affair with a married woman? That was my icebreaker. In all seriousness, though, thinking about your recent foray into the world of feminism , how did you view this story line within that framework? To me, I see less of a connection to feminism than I do to good habits of being in a relationship. The character you play in this film is pretty lost in love.
How do you relate to that? I actually had gotten out of my most significant relationship about a month and a half before I auditioned for the role. It was all very real and raw and easily accessible. The style of the filmmaking had a lot of two-shots with both our faces in it, or sometimes there was a whole extended shot of one of us in frame with the other in a reflection or something, and that forces you to really listen and take the person in a different way than standard film and TV are shot.
So, basically, with the character, I had come from a breakup, from a place where loss and mourning were very real. I think fame in general changes perception drastically. If there are [actors] who are bitter about that and wondering who you can trust, I understand that. Success and talent, those are attractive qualities.
Matt McGorry And Dascha Polanco From OITNB Reunited At The Emmys And People Freaked Out
Find the rest of our Orange is the New Black recaps here! To me, Orange is the New Black is a nearly perfect show. The acting is flawless, the writing is balanced and sharp, and the show skillfully plays between drama and comedy. There is one resentment I harbor against the prison series: I hate Daya. Her story line for the last two seasons have centered around a romance with corrections officer John Bennett and her resulting pregnancy, a plot that is unnecessary, inconsistent, and boring.
But Suzanne, who suffers from mental health problems, started to attack CO Baxter Bayley when additional officers were called for back up. When Poussey tried to.
Litchfield’s Prince Charming officially has a mean streak. Officer John Bennett had viewers swooning through season one of Orange Is the New Black — and kind of ignoring the fact that a guard courting and impregnating a prisoner is illegal. But Bennett isn’t just the nice guy anymore. His wrath kicks off after his inmate-girlfriend Daya’s crew blackmails him to sneak in contraband like Yoo-Hoo in his prosthetic leg, of course , in exchange for keeping the baby a secret.
The “leg-based contraband” operation as Flaca puts it doesn’t last. Pressured by demands from up top, Bennett starts power tripping and flipping out on inmates, even unfairly sending Maria to solitary. So what — he’s still adorable. Who else would comfort a hormonal Daya by leaving spinach under her pillow for prenatal nourishment? Bennett was percent lovable in season one, but things are complicated now. How has the fan response changed?
